Dance Masters of America, Inc. (DMA) is a national organization of dance teachers who have been certified by examination.  Examinations are offered in
ballet, jazz, tap, modern and acro.

Teachers must be examined in each genre they teach and wish to be certified.

Please read all of the information provided below and fill out this DMA National membership application.

Requirements:

  • Applicant will need to provide two character references / letters of recommendation from outside the organization.

  • Applicant will need two current members that are in good standing to recommend them for membership consideration. We will aide the applicant with this process.

  • Obtain the syllabi from DMA National and begin to study.

  • Examine within 1 year of beginning the application process.

  • After passing examinations the applicant will be obligated/accepted as a member.

Please note: DMA has a very high standard of ethics; therefore a teacher’s membership depends upon and reflects both technical expertise and a strong code of ethics.

WORKSHOPS & COMPETITION:

  • Fall Workshop for both teachers and students.

  • November workshop in Williamsburg, VA for both teachers and students.

  • Winter workshop for both teachers and students.

  • DMA Title Competition - dancers are awarded local chapter titles and then compete for national titles in the summer.

  • Performing Arts Competition in March. Only member teachers can present dancers.

  • National Convention in the summer.

JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP:

Our chapter offers a Junior Membership program, which is designed for 14-18 year old students of a member in good standing. This is a starting point for many dancers who are considering a college major or career in a dance-related field.   Program Information

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:

Tuition based scholarships to continue dance training with current studio or school.

Scholarships to DMA National Convention.

TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:

  • The Bernice Warner Scholarship is a teacher’s scholarship awarded annually to a student of a member teacher to attend DMA’s Teacher’s Training School.

  • AMA National Scholarship is a teacher’s scholarship awarded to one member of our chapter to attend the DMA’s Teacher’s Training School (TTS).
